Penalties: types, scopes and automatic penalties

Types

  • Warning — an entry in the penalty history, no block.
  • Temporary ban — a block until a set date.
  • Permanent ban — a block with no end date.

Scopes and effects

  • Tournaments — blocks sign-ups and check-in; the player cannot be in the team's starting roster or a match lineup.
  • Messaging — blocks sending messages.
  • Portal — blocks logging in.

Automatic penalties

In official tournaments the system records events by itself:

  • late check-in — the entry lost its slot because it did not check in; the event goes to the captain (in a 1v1 tournament — the player);
  • not showing up for a match — a walkover for not showing up, awarded automatically when time runs out or by a referee; the event goes to the captain and the starting roster (not substitutes or staff), in 1v1 — the player; if neither side shows up, both teams get the event;
  • withdrawing after the draw — a walkover awarded by a referee because the team withdrew from the tournament; the event goes to the captain;
  • abusive messages — a moderator hid a message for harassment, threats or offensive content; the event goes to the author. If the decision to hide it is reversed (including on appeal), the event no longer counts.

Community tournaments do not record events. Events from a service or server outage are voided by the staff — they do not count towards thresholds, and a penalty based only on such events is revoked.

When the same event happens a set number of times within a set period, the system applies a penalty by itself. Default thresholds:

  • late check-in 3 times within 30 days → 7-day tournament ban;
  • not showing up for a match 2 times within 60 days → 14-day tournament ban;
  • withdrawing after the draw 2 times within 90 days → warning;
  • abusive messages 3 times within 30 days → 7-day messaging ban.

The thresholds are set by the staff. Relaxing a threshold takes effect immediately; tightening it takes effect no earlier than 14 days after it is announced.

Notification and statement of reasons

You get a notification with the reasons for every penalty: the Terms provision breached, the facts, the scope and duration of the penalty, and how to appeal. A penalty applied automatically is marked as such and lists the dated events that led to it.

Penalty history

Only bans (temporary and permanent) are public on your profile: type, scope, dates and status — without the reason. Warnings are not public. On your own profile you see all penalties with their reasons. Expired bans disappear from public view after 24 months; bans revoked after an appeal disappear immediately.

Warnings and temporary bans are kept for 3 years after they expire or are revoked, and then deleted together with their reasons and events. A permanent ban is kept while it is in force.

Appeals
